On the new XPS M the biometric scan actually seemed too sensitive but once again couldn’t register even one successful scan of my fingers or those of my wife. You’re right, it’s a mess.

I’ve tried all different ways of swiping which would be successful in enrolling, and have tried different fingers, but nothing is solving this. Device Manager says its working properly as well. Do you never install updates now?

I think I’ll go do that dell xps m1530 fingerprint reader, even though they probably won’t be of much help. One of the first things I did with my XPS m was disable the fingerprint reader.

My old first generation XPS laptop was such a wonder, and while the external styling of this machine is vastly improved, the hardware is far inferior. You can install those updates again later, if you decide so.

I sail through the tutorial and enrollment perfectly, but when it comes down to the confirmation swiping thing I contantly fail.
